Free YouTube Video and Shorts Transcriber
Upload a video or Short file and get the spoken words as text, with .srt subtitles.
About this tool
Turn a YouTube video or Short into text for descriptions, chapters, blog posts, translations or captions. Upload the file; the tool extracts the sound in your browser, transcribes it and gives you the text plus a subtitle file you can upload to YouTube Studio.
How to use it
- Choose a video or audio file. Use the file you uploaded to YouTube, which you can download from YouTube Studio for your own videos, or another file you have rights to.
- Pick the language, or leave it on automatic.
- Press Transcribe, then copy the text or download the .txt or .srt file.
Tips for a better transcript
- Upload the final export for the best match with what viewers hear.
- Use the transcript to write a description whose first lines name the topic.
- Review the .srt before uploading it as captions. Fix names and technical terms.
- Split long videos into parts of 10 minutes or less.

Can I paste a link instead of uploading a file?
No. This tool does not download videos from other platforms, which keeps you in control of what you transcribe. Upload the video or audio file instead.
How long can the video be?
Up to about 10 minutes. Your browser extracts the sound first, so even a large video becomes a small upload. Split longer videos into parts.
What file types work?
MP4, MOV, WebM, MP3, WAV and M4A usually work. If your browser cannot read the sound in a file, try exporting it as MP4 or MP3.
How accurate is the transcript?
It is usually good for clear speech and weaker with heavy background music, strong accents or mixed languages. Always read it before you publish it.
Is my video stored?
Statly does not keep your file or the transcript. The sound is sent to an AI speech service to produce the text, so do not upload anything private or confidential.
Which languages are supported?
It detects the language automatically, or you can pick one from the list for better accuracy. Many more languages work with automatic detection.
